Most laundry renovations in Australia cost between $5,000 and $30,000, according to Three Birds Renovations. A small laundry with simple finishes is often $3,000 to $7,000.

Below are the price ranges, what each part of a laundry costs, what pushes the price up, and the Queensland rules for a laundry floor. These are market prices from cost guides, checked on 4 October 2026. They are not a quote from us.

How much does a laundry renovation cost in 2026?

A full renovation with mid-range finishes usually lands between $7,000 and $18,000. Here is what the main cost guides say.

SourceBudgetMid-rangeHigh-end
Three Birds Renovations (2025)$5,000-$10,000$10,000-$18,000$18,000-$30,000+
Nero Tapware (2025)$3,000-$8,000$8,000-$16,000$16,000-$30,000+
Renopage (2025)$3,000-$7,000$7,000-$15,000$15,000-$25,000+
hipages, quoted by Canstar (2023)$5,000-$25,000 for most laundries, not counting appliances

We could not find any published laundry prices for the Gold Coast or Queensland, so these ranges are national. Nero Tapware describes the budget tier as a cosmetic refresh in the existing layout, with flat-pack cabinets and simple finishes.

How much does a small laundry renovation cost?

About $3,000 to $7,000 for a small laundry of 5 to 10 m2 with simple finishes, according to Nero Tapware's 2025 guide.

Laundry sizeTypical cost
Small (5-10 m2)$3,000-$7,000
Medium (10-15 m2)$7,000-$12,000
Large (15 m2 and up)$12,000-$20,000+

Size sets how much floor there is to tile and how many cupboards fit. The finishes and any plumbing changes move the price too.

What does each part of a laundry cost?

Here is how two cost guides break down the main items. The ranges are wide because a flat-pack cupboard and custom joinery sit in the same line.

ItemNero Tapware (2025)Renopage (2025)
Cabinets and storage$2,000-$20,000$1,500-$10,000
Benchtop$500-$12,000$600-$3,500+
Tiling and splashback$600-$12,000$800-$4,000+
Sink and tapware$100-$2,000$250-$1,500+
Appliances$550-$6,000$700-$4,000+
Plumbing, fixtures kept in place$1,000-$3,000$500-$2,500+
Waterproofing$500-$1,000-
Permits and inspections$500-$1,500+-

Labour is the biggest single share. Nero Tapware and Three Birds both put it at 40-50% of the budget.

What makes a laundry renovation cost more?

The biggest jump comes from moving things. CO-architecture's 2026 planning range for moving one plumbing point is about $1,500 to $5,000, and it says moving the whole laundry to another room "generally starts around $15,000". Nero Tapware's advice is simple: "Keeping fixtures in place saves money."

Other things that push the price up:

  • Custom joinery. Renopage says flat-pack versus custom joinery "makes a big difference".
  • More tiles. Full-height wall tiles cost more than a splashback only.
  • The benchtop. Laminate is the budget choice. Stone and timber cost more.
  • Appliances. If they are in the quote, they can add $550 to $6,000 on their own.

Cabinets and benchtops are priced the same way in a kitchen. Our kitchen renovation cost guide has per-metre prices for both.

Does a laundry need waterproofing in Queensland?

A laundry floor must be water resistant, which is a lower bar than the waterproofing a shower needs. Queensland still uses the National Construction Code 2022, and its Part 10.2 sets these rules for laundries:

  • the floor of the room must be water resistant
  • the joins between the walls and floor must be water resistant
  • the wall behind a laundry tub must be water resistant to at least 150 mm above the tub, where the tub is within 75 mm of the wall
  • where the tub is fixed to the wall, that join must be waterproof
  • tap and spout holes in those surfaces must be waterproof

If your laundry also has a shower, the full shower rules apply to that part. The plumbing in any laundry must be done by a licensed plumber: in Queensland, plumbing and drainage need a QBCC licence at any value, and other building work over $3,300 needs one too.

For what waterproofing costs and the full wet area rules, see our guide to bathroom waterproofing cost in Queensland.

How do I compare laundry renovation quotes?

Quotes only compare if they cover the same job. Check that each one says:

  • whether the plumbing stays where it is, or what it costs to move
  • what the cupboards are made of, and whether they are flat-pack or made to measure
  • the benchtop material
  • how much wall gets tiled
  • whether appliances are included
  • who does the plumbing and electrical work

Where do these prices come from?

Checked on 4 October 2026: Three Birds Renovations (laundry renovation cost, July 2025), Nero Tapware (laundry renovation cost, December 2025), Renopage (laundry renovation costs 2025-2026, November 2025), Canstar (May 2023, quoting hipages) and CO-architecture (September 2026).
