Decks built for how you live outside
Field Carpentry builds decks across the Gold Coast: new timber and composite decks, pool decks and patios, and repairs to the deck you already have. Brett Field is QBCC licensed and has more than 25 years on the tools.
On the Gold Coast, the deck is often the room you use most. As a carpenter on the Gold Coast, Brett builds the stairs, railings and built-ins that go with it too.

How much does a deck cost on the Gold Coast?
Decks are priced per square metre. These are typical Gold Coast supply and install rates from a published 2026 cost guide, not Brett's own price list. Brett's free quote is the real number for your deck.
| Material | Per m² | A 25 m² deck |
|---|---|---|
| Treated pine | $175 to $345 | $4,375 to $8,625 |
| Merbau hardwood | $295 to $540 | $7,375 to $13,500 |
| Spotted gum hardwood | $345 to $590 | $8,625 to $14,750 |
| Composite | $275 to $540 | $6,875 to $13,500 |

A deck raised more than a metre off the ground adds about $49 to $175 per square metre, for the taller frame, footings and railings. Stairs, a roof and taking out an old deck add to the price too.
Timber or composite decking?
Hardwood looks and feels natural, but it needs oiling to keep looking good. Composite costs about the same as hardwood to build, and needs much less upkeep. Treated pine costs the least.
On the Gold Coast, salt air matters too. Timber industry guidance says decks within 1 km of the coast, or close to a pool, need stainless steel fixings. Brett talks you through the options for your home and budget.
Pool decks and patios
Brett builds timber and composite pool decks, and covered patios that turn a deck into an outdoor room. Around a pool, the boards have to cope with water, sun and bare feet, so the material matters even more.
He also builds the daybeds, cabanas and built-in seats that finish a pool area off.
Can you restore my old deck?
Yes. Brett replaces boards, fixes the frame, rebuilds stairs and railings, and brings tired decks back to life. Restoring a deck often costs far less than building a new one, so it is worth asking about first.
Do I need approval for a deck?
Often, yes. The City of Gold Coast says a deck needs building approval unless it is smaller than 10 square metres and less than 1 metre high. A roofed deck needs approval too.
Brett checks what your deck needs and handles the approval for you.
