Having a sliding door installed costs anywhere from about $200 to over $2,000, depending on the size and type of door, according to hipages (August 2026). In Queensland, a standard aluminium glass sliding door costs about $800 to $1,800 supplied and installed, says The Quote Yard (July 2026).

Below are prices for barn doors, cavity sliders, sliding glass doors, stackers and bifolds, what the frame and glass add, who does which part of the job, and what is different on the Gold Coast. These are market prices from cost guides, checked on 12 October 2026. They are not a quote from us.

How much does it cost to install a sliding door in 2026?

Going by the table below, common sliding doors cost $600 to $1,800 supplied and installed. Wide stacker, bifold and lift and slide doors start at about $2,000.

Lift and slide door$3,000-$7,000The Quote Yard (Queensland, July 2026)

The Quote Yard's supply and install prices cover the door, frame, glass, hardware and fitting. It says making an opening bigger, taking out the old door, plastering and painting may cost extra. So ask what your quote leaves out.

How much does an internal sliding door cost?

The door itself costs from about $70 for a concertina door up to $1,500 for a pocket door, according to hipages, plus labour. Glass doors can cost more. Here is its August 2026 price list for the door only.

Internal door, supply onlyPrice (hipages, August 2026)
Concertina (accordion) doorFrom about $70
Sliding door on an exposed track$300-$900
Pocket (cavity) doorUp to $1,500
Glass sliding door$300 to over $2,000

For the fitting, hipages puts carpenters at $90 to $120 an hour and says installation can run from $180 to $2,000, depending on the job. Our guide to what a carpenter costs per hour has Gold Coast rates. hipages says pocket doors are a lot more complex to install than doors on an exposed track, so they cost more overall.

How much does a cavity sliding door cost?

About $800 to $1,200 per opening for the door, track, frame kit and labour, according to Sparky (September 2026). That compares with $400 to $700 for a standard hinged door.

The Quote Yard's Queensland figures split the job by the wall it goes into:

Cavity slider jobPriceSource
Door and track kit, supply only$250-$500Sparky (September 2026)
Cavity frame, supply only$250-$600The Quote Yard (Queensland, June 2026)
New cavity slider in a new wall$700-$1,500The Quote Yard (Queensland, June 2026)
Retrofit into an existing wall$1,200-$2,500+The Quote Yard (Queensland, June 2026)
Double cavity sliders, per pair$1,500-$3,000+The Quote Yard (Queensland, June 2026)
Replace the door only, frame stays$300-$700The Quote Yard (Queensland, June 2026)

A retrofit costs more because the wall has to be opened, any pipes or wires moved, the frame built in, and the wall lined and plastered again. The Quote Yard says to find out first if the wall is load-bearing, because that can make it structural work. Our door installation cost guide has hinged door prices to compare.

How much does a barn door cost to install?

A barn door and track usually costs $600 to $1,200 supplied and installed in Queensland, according to The Quote Yard (June 2026). Fitting a door and track you already bought costs $300 to $600.

A barn door hangs on a track on the face of the wall, so the wall has to carry its weight. The Quote Yard puts a timber backing board or other wall reinforcement at an extra $150 to $400. Its full price list, including soft-close hardware and repairs, is on our sliding doors and barn doors page.

One limit worth knowing: a barn door leaves small gaps at its edges. The Quote Yard says that lets sound and light through, so it is not ideal for a main bathroom or toilet. A cavity slider or a hinged door seals better there.

How much does a sliding glass door cost?

A standard aluminium sliding glass door costs about $800 to $1,800 supplied and installed in Queensland (The Quote Yard, July 2026). Its example of swapping a worn patio door for a new aluminium unit with toughened glass is $1,000 to $1,800.

The glass moves the price. The Quote Yard says low-E glass adds about $30 to $60 per m2 over standard glass, and double glazing about $100 to $200 per m2. Exterior doors cost more than interior ones, hipages notes, because they have to handle weather and security.

Sparky also lists prices homeowners reported. One 2026 report paid $3,000 for a double glazed sliding patio door (1800 x 2100 mm), supplied and installed. A 2025 Queensland report of a glass sliding door and a window fitted in a brick wall came to $11,000. That included about $4,000 for the door and glass, $4,000 labour and $2,000 render.

How much do stacker and bifold doors cost?

A 3-panel stacker door costs about $3,000 to $6,000 supplied and installed in Queensland, and a large bifold $6,000 to $14,000 or more, according to The Quote Yard's stacker and bifold page (June 2026).

Structural opening (lintel and making good)$2,000-$8,000+, extra to the doorThe Quote Yard stacker and bifold page (Queensland, June 2026)

The Quote Yard's two Queensland pages give different ranges, so we show both. The big swing is the opening. If it already exists, you pay for the door. If it has to be cut or widened, you also pay for a lintel and the making good.

Who installs a sliding door in Queensland, a carpenter or a glazier?

Often both. The QBCC carpentry licence covers installing windows and doors, including the framing. The glass, glazing and aluminium licence covers glazing, and making and installing windows and doors.

In practice, a carpenter handles barn doors, cavity frames, timber doors and the framing for a new opening. Sparky says aluminium and uPVC window replacement is typically done by a glazier or window company, not a carpenter. If you only want to swap an old aluminium glass door for a new one in the same opening, a window and door company is often the simpler call.

Work valued over $3,300 must be done by a contractor with a QBCC licence. Going by the prices above, a single internal slider or a standard glass door often sits under that line. A large stacker or bifold goes over it.

What is different about sliding doors on the Gold Coast?

Salt air, wind-driven rain and new openings.

Salt air. The Australian Stainless Steel Development Association says grade 316 or better should be the minimum within five kilometres of the surf. It also says "tea staining" can show up 20 km or more from the surf. Ask what grade the rollers, track fixings and handles are.

Weather. Sparky says external glazed doors must meet AS 2047, which covers wind load, water getting in and air leaks. The Quote Yard says to confirm a door is rated for your location and exposure, and that the seals and the threshold (the sill) decide whether it keeps the rain out.

New openings. Sparky says widening an opening means a new lintel or beam and an engineer's sign-off, and typically a building permit. Our guide to council approval on the Gold Coast explains when approval is needed. A certifier or engineer has the final word for your house.

How do I compare sliding door quotes?

Quotes only compare if they cover the same job. Check that each one says:

  • the door type, its size and how many panels
  • the frame: aluminium, timber or uPVC
  • the glass: standard, toughened, low-E or double glazed
  • whether the opening already exists, or needs a lintel and an engineer
  • whether removing the old door, plastering and painting are included
  • the grade of the hardware, for homes near the surf
  • the QBCC licence number and class, if the job is over $3,300

We fit barn doors, cavity sliders and sliding doors across the Gold Coast, and frame new openings. See our carpentry work for the doors and other jobs we do.

Where do these figures come from?

Checked on 12 October 2026: hipages (sliding door costs, updated 31 August 2026), Sparky (door and window costs, updated September 2026), The Quote Yard (Queensland pages for sliding doors, published 25 July 2026; cavity sliders, 2 June 2026; barn doors, 2 June 2026; stacker and bifold doors, 8 June 2026). Rules and guidance from the QBCC (when you need a licence, carpentry and glass, glazing and aluminium licence scopes) and the Australian Stainless Steel Development Association. We will check the prices again every three months.
